Declaration of Interdependence
A live Substack workshop on the identity shift beyond people-pleasing: strong enough to give, open enough to receive.
Yesterday closed out The Type C Files, the series that started with a question I wasn’t sure I had the right to ask: can you cause cancer? I meant for that to be the end of it, at least for now.
I ended yesterday’s post with an invitation: you do not have to do this alone. Coaching is one door. Community is another.
Then this morning, uninvited, a third door showed up: interdependence. Today the country I live in is celebrating independence, and I woke up with a different word on my mind entirely.
Independence was never really my challenge. I built a whole career, a whole identity, on being able to handle things myself. Show up for everyone. Read the room before I read myself. Give until there was nothing left to give, and call it strength.
But interdependence…
What I’ve spent the last several years learning, through cancer, through divorce, through every in-between, is that the opposite of people-pleasing isn’t isolation. It’s becoming someone rooted enough in her own identity that she can receive as easily as she gives.
That’s the sweet space. Interdependence. Strong enough to stand on your own ground, open enough to let someone hand you something without flinching. To me, it is freedom. Strong enough to understand we need each other in this fragile world and open enough to understand energy flows in healthy reciprocity.
Starting Monday, July 6th at 7pm, I’m hosting a 6-week series live here on Substack: Declaration of Interdependence. One hour every Monday, live conversation, plus weekly prompts/practice to sit with between sessions. We’ll use the private chat here on Substack as our gathering space between calls.
If this feels like one of those “10 seconds of insane courage” moments, you are not alone. I’ve never done a Substack Live before. This is new for me too, which feels right for a series about learning to receive as openly as you give.
It also feels like this is the natural next step after The Type C Files. The content will be taken from actual chapters of the book I’m writing, brought to life together in real time.
If you’re already one of my founding subscribers, thank you. This is included, no additional cost, mad gratitude to you for being with me from the start. ♥️
If you’re new here: founding membership is $266/year, and right now that includes this full 6-week series.
Six Mondays, starting July 6, 2026. One hour each.
You are under no obligation to be the person you were five minutes ago. Let’s declare who’s next, together.
Sign-ups close Sunday night, July 5th at 6pm.
I want to be honest about why there’s a deadline at all. I know what happens when the feeling fades. The yes that feels so clear today gets quieter by Wednesday, and by next weekend it’s easy to tell yourself you’ll catch the next one. That’s the old pattern doing exactly what it knows how to do, finding a reason for later. If this is a yes, let it be a yes now, while it still feels like one.
And if someone in your life needs to hear this too, forward it along, bring them Monday, gift them a seat. However that looks for you.
Email me directly if you have any questions, hello@kathywashburn.net.
Peacefully,
Kathy
