Nine Signs it's Time for Change
Did you know we often hear the whispered messages of change for two to four YEARS (!) before taking action?
Do you hear the whispers of change?
Is your body mind telling you it’s time?
Remove any judgement or shame. Time is time and you are ready when you are ready. It took a very long time to begin investing in myself by taking action, way more than 2 years. I was slapping lipstick on the pig for years failing to realize the wisdom of Peter Pan, “To live will be an awfully big adventure.”
Cured from cancer, I was grateful to be alive but I now know being alive is way more than being cured.
Nine signs it's time for Change…
Old ways of coping are no longer working.
“We often numb ourselves from feeling pain, which means we also mute our ability to feel pleasure and become a soldier in the army of the walking dead.” Kathy Washburn
There is a haunting fear you will die not having lived up to your potential.
“The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry out their dream.” Les Brown
There is a sudden awareness you have been living someone else’s values; a jolt of understanding your allegiance has been to the wrong authority.
“Alexander Hamilton once said, “If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.”
The importance of your values is that they let you know what you stand for.
When you know your values, it allows you to “fall” only for the things that align with your deepest held truths.
Bitterness and resentment are starting to feel like friends as you witness the dividends playing out in your investments in others and realize you have neglected investing in yourself.
“In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
And where you invest your love, you invest your life”Mumford and Sons, Awake My Soul
House of Cards feels fragile. Maybe those you have been serving have moved on and you don’t know who you are without them. (Empty nest, divorce, job loss, heath scare - these transitions can make our “house” feel vulnerable.)
“Well, I've been 'fraid of changin'
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm gettin' older, too” Stevie Nicks from her song, LandslideYou’ve been an armchair adventurer. You listen to the podcasts, you “LET THEM”,(and you know it’s just not that easy), you’ve taken the courses, read the books. But action feels too scary, you have no idea where to start. But you want to…
Feeling burnt out and uninterested. Putting lipstick on a pig doesn’t make the pig any prettier.
Body brain is telling you “normal” isn’t working anymore. Physical illness, health scares, sick and tired of being sick and tired.
“Your soul is clearing [her] throat.” Matt DiGeronimo from his book Actualization: Becoming the Person Worthy of Your Dreams
Hope. You have hope. It is a spark of what life could be, and for the first time, maybe in a long time you want to ignite it.
Are you hearing the whispers?
What are they saying?
Are you ready for change?
What would change actually look like?
“Nothing will work unless you do.” Maya Angelo
"your soul is clearing her throat." wow - loved this
Wow so poignant for our times…injury and illness are great teachers.. and it isn’t that easy to Let Them! I totally agree with that one! Geez we don’t want to feel the pain of not knowing but mostly we don’t know and that’s a good thing.
